Griechisch lernen auf Kreta mit Lexis

What a great GREEK stay !! I spent 2 weeks at Lexis School in July 2017. It was a gerat expierience and I did learn a lot ! Thank you Maria ! You were outstanding! I had very good lesssons and also differnt activities beside daily classes, like cooking Greek dishes with the teachers at School, we all went to an outstanding Greek Taverna and made excursions together. There were nice Students from Spain, France and Australia , thank you Maria , thanks to the entire team at Chania Lexis School, I defintly will come back.

Αυτό το καλοκαίρι έμεινα τρεις βδομάδες στα Χανιά να κάνω μαθήματα ελληνικής γλώσσας στο σχολείο Λέξις. Στόχος μου ήτανε να περάσω τις εξετάσεις ελληνικών Β2, και χάρη στη βοήθεια των καθηγητών της Λέξις, πέτυχα. Θέλω να εκφράσω εδώ την ευγνωμοσύνη για όσους δουλεύουν στο σχολείο, ιδιαίτερα στην Μαρία, ακόμα και στην Κατερίνι, οι οποίες μου παρέδωσαν μαθήματα. Ευχαριστώ για την απασχόλησή σας, για την καλωσύνη σας. Σε λίγες μέρες προχώρησα ταχύτατα και σταθερά. Δεν θα το είχα βγάλει πέρα χωρίς την βοήθειά σας. Μου άρεσαν πολύ και οι πολιτιστικές δραστηριότητες που διοργανώνει το σχολείο. Πάντα αισθάνθηκα σαν να ήμουν στο δικό μου σπίτι. I began to learn greek language on my own, long time ago. Afterward I studied in several academies, but, without a doubt, Lexis is the best greek language’s school I ever knew, and I hope to repeat. Thanks a lot.

It was in the first weeks of September 2015 that I followed a course of Greek for beginners. We were only three students so that the studies were particularly intense. Maria was an outstanding teacher for all of us in the sense that we not only made considerable progress in our ability to speak and to understand the language but also in the sensitive way in which she created a very positive atmosphere in the little group. In my judgment you cannot have a better introduction into language and culture.

I had been studied Greek for a year or so before attending a two-week course at Lexis and I have to say that it was an unforgettable experience. The teachers try to taylor-make the lessons according to the level and interests of the students. They also plan extra activities which help the people deep diving in the Greek culture. I have to mention especially the movie collection which I appreciated a lot. I strongly recommend to attend a course here if you whish to speak Greek (and not only learn, but speak. This summer i spent two weeks at Lexis Centre. I was in Chania for the first time, alone, and I want to say that Chania is the perfect place to study. Maria was my teacher. Οur lessons were very interesting and informative. After two weeks I saw progress in my Greek language.I recommend this school for all who want to learn Greek language. Summer 2014.

Ευχαριστώ πολύ για κάθε πράγμα στο σχολείο. Δεν ξέρω πως μπορώ να εκφράσω τις ευχαριστίες μου. Το σχολείο είναι τέλειο, τα μαθήματα είναι διασκεδαστικά και χρήσιμα, οι καθηγήτριες είναι καλοκαρδές, καλλονές!Οργανώνουν πολλές δραστηριότητες – μουσείο, ταβέρνα, δημοτικοί χοροί και μάλιστα μαγειρέψαμε το ελληνικό πιάτο!  Η θέα από το σχολείο είναι θαυμάσια, υπέροχη! Κοντά στο σχολείο βρίσκεται ένα καφενείο, που μπορείτε να φάτε νόστιμες και φρέσκες τυρόπιτες και πιείτε ένα φλιτζάνι αληθινού ελληνικού καφέ! Μου άρεσα πολύ αυτό το σχολείο! Πραγματικά στα Χανιά υπάρχουν πολλά αξιοθέατα και όμορφα μέρη! Ιδιαίτερα  ευχαριστώ την καθηγήτρια μου – Ζηνοβία για κάθε τέλειο μάθημα που είχαμε μαζί και πολλές νέες γνώσες!

This is a really special place. I’ve been learning Greek for five years, and I ran out of textbooks a long time ago. For several years I’ve been coming here for individual lessons, and each time my Greek accelerates noticeably. I want to speak authentic everyday Greek, but also to discuss professional, social and historical topics in ‚higher register‘ Greek. My teachers here are not only great language teachers, but also great conversationalists – always prepared with interesting topics, and always able to anticipate where I might want to go. Time flies, but I always feel like I’ve worked hard, in a satisfying (not tiring) way. Added to this, Chania is the perfect place to study. Not only is it beautiful, but the scale of the place makes it easy to just wander around, listening to Greek language all around you, and trying out new vocabulary.

We spent two weeks at Lexis Centre and had a really good experience there. We were part of a group of 3 or 4 persons aged between 40 and 60 years following an intensive course at intermediate level. 4 lessons a day were quite much, since we got homework in addition. Serious learning also means a review of what already has been done, which takes time as well which you might miss for visits of beautiful and appealing Chania.

Zinobía was our teacher. This friendly young mother taught us the secrets of Greek pronounciation, orthography and grammar. She was very good in finding descriptions and forming examples. Besides the lessons we visited a museum and were invited by the school to a joined dinner where we shared very fine lokal dishes. Another day all pupils were cooking a Greek meal together. The owner of the school works also as teacher (and cook!). We can recommand this school to students of all levels of knowledge.

The Lexis school was a pleasant surprise for me as I arrived in Chania this summer. I was in Crete for the first time, alone, and I found in the school a friendly atmosphere with many young teachers always willing to help and make you feel „home“. The intensive course I followed was held by a high educated teacher, the lessons were very interesting, intercative, and of high quality. In the 3 weeks I spent in Chanià the school organized many recreative activities (cooking days, dinners, visit to the old city, arch.museum and art gallery etc.) so I was always in touch with other courses‘ students, coming from all over Europe, exchanging experiences and having fun together. Overall I advice this school to everyone who wants to learn modern Greek but at the same time spend holidays in a place rich with history, where nature is marvellous, and people are joyful and openhearted. For sure I will come back next year!

Last summer I attended an immersion course of 8 weeks at „Lexis Language Institute“ in Chania/Crete. For me it was a wonderful time I spent there, with a great number of very exciting encounters and a lot of new experience. The size of the Institute and the number of students allows a very personal and individual contact with the teachers and the other students in a familiar atmosphere. The two teachers who trained me in the Greek language, Evangelia and Maria, treated me, an absolute beginner, with all patience required and furthermore they responded to all my questions with great effort.
I appreciated them much, both from their human and professional qualification. Due to the accompanying program of the institute I didn’t only learn the Greek language, but I got to know a lot about Greek culture, history and politics.
I’m already looking forward to my next language course at Lexis Institute!

I attended a two weeks Greek course at Lexis in August 2020. Because of Covid-19 there were few students and we didn’t have extra-curricular activities. Nevertheless it was a wonderful experience. First of all, I always felt safe at school and had no concerns regarding the Coronavirus. The language course was amazing. I really enjoyed Marias’ lessons. She is a wonderful teacher, able to adapt the pace to the students’ needs. The course was really intensive and I could learn a lot. I think that this is the main benefit of learning with a really professional teacher. Tuition at Lexis is perfect both for beginners and for advanced students. As a conference interpreter I have very high requirements as to language tuition and I was fully satisfied with Lexis. I totally recommend Lexis and hope to be able to go back to the beautiful city of Chanià soon. Francesca

I agree with other reviewers: Lexis is a fantastic place to learn Greek. Set in the centre of Chaniá, in a beautiful neighbourhood, with excellent teachers, relaxed and fun atmosphere – and a highly professional and serious approach to teaching.
When this year’s trip to Chaniá was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I converted my language course to Skype lessons. It was so worth it! For 10 weeks, I have done 1:1 lessons twice a week, lots of homework, have had plenty of excellent material supplied by the school, innumerable interesting conversations… This course has made a major difference for me and I highly recommend it.

I attended 8 hours private lessons during my vacation in Chania at Lexis. My level is beginner but after 8 hours with Eleni I feel confident to go out and try out my skills on other people. Eleni is very inspiring and nothing gets by her ears or eyes. I’ve finished my lessons, but I’m on the beach right now repeating and continuing to learn. I might even consider some online lessons, though I said it was not for me. Thank you so much for your teaching Eleni. It’s been a great pleasure

„Both for adults and kids“

We had an amazing experience with Lexis Language school in beautiful Chania, Crete.

The school was able to accomodate both me as mother and my daughter 8 years old at the same time but in different classes. The level of difficulty was appropriate for us both and most importantly my daughter both learned and had fun at the same time.
I recommend this language school fully.

„Basic class in May 2024“

I had booked a basic greek language class in May 2024. Because no other student with my knowledge level had enrolled, instead of 4 hours a day in a group I had 2 hours per day lessons 1 on 1 which I thought was very efficient. My teacher, Evi, was wonderful and I learned a lot. The amount of theory, excercise, cultural learning etc. was great.

I also liked the location of the school: it is located in a beautiful part of Chania with nice cafes/restaurants close by.
